About business in
Hebei Province
Hebei Province’s economy has traditionally been focused on heavy industry with steel manufacture and energy production being its backbone. Its economy is highly integrated with that of Beijing and Tianjin (the so-called Jing-Jin-Ji triangle; ‘Jing’ - Beijing, ‘Jin’ – Tianjin, ‘Ji’ – an old name for Hebei) giving a total population base of over 110 million people. Since the mid-2010s central government policies have been addressing the imbalance in the Jing-Jin-Ji area by moving backroom government functions out of Beijing and into Hebei cities such as Baoding. The province has also been investing in industries such as clean energy and New Electric Vehicles and is home to Yingli, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of solar panels, and Great Wall Motors, China’s leading producer of SUV vehicles.
The province also includes the Xiong’an New Area, China’s ‘city of the future’ – a smart’ liveable city developed without the challenges of existing urban areas. Xiong’an and the nearby Daxing International Airport, which has the potential to become the world’s largest, form a hub for high-tech enterprises and start -ups, particularly in the fields of advanced manufacturing, biomedicine, Big Data and air logistics.
